The following compounds that help mimic natural flavors, Synthetically-derived benzophenone, ethyl acrylate, methyl eugenol, myrcene, pulegone, and pyridine - “Permitted to be label as Artificial Flavor” - are no longer allowed to be used as food additives. The FDA says it will de-list six of the synthetic compounds from its additive list and is giving manufacturers 24 months to "identify suitable replacement ingredients and reformulate their food products."
